Congratulations to our students

Two pupils of the Kingston Academy of Music, Cameron Sheil and Lauren Murray, have been selected to receive “Highest Achievers Awards” from the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM).

The recipients of the awards are selected from recommendations made by RIAM examiners along with students who have reached some of the highest marks in the RIAM examinations through the 2015/16 academic year.

Ten-year-old Cameron studies violin at the Academy under the direction of Jessica Valiente and 13-year-old Lauren studies the Irish harp tutored by Junshi Murakami.

As a result of their success, both pupils will get to audition to perform in a major concert featuring all the country’s high achieving, young musicians to be organised by RIAM in Dublin early next year.

Cameron and Lauren’s awards reflect the outstanding results the Academy’s students achieved in the early summer’s RIAM examinations when students achieved an average pass rate in excess of 85 per cent once again. Some students excelled with percentages in the 90s and many students taking their first ever music examinations recorded great success.

The Awards from the country’s highly respected music examination board are national recognition of the Academy’s structure of teaching which differentiates it from other music schools. They also reflect the creative and nurturing environment that we seek to provide in Castle Street, Dalkey.

That ambience has been improved over the summer by refurbishment and renovation work which has enhanced the physical surroundings in which students study. The work is part of planned improvements as we build up to celebrate the Academy’s tenth anniversary in 2018.

Finally, we are looking forward to everyone’s return for the new academic year. The office will be open from Tuesday 16th August to give those of you who have not done so already an opportunity to secure your course and preferred day and time by submitting the enrolment forms and deposit. While there has been a high level of enrolment there are places available for most instruments and courses.
