Welcome To Our Website

The Kingston Academy of Music was founded in 2008 to enable the fostering of a community-friendly ethos; supporting local and international musicians, visual artists, graphic artists, and writers in all areas of Performance, Teaching and Learning, with a clear mission of educating our future audiences and future performers of all ages and all levels. Our vision for the future is to combine the academic and creative possibilities of music education and performance at all levels and in every genre, and to build on the foundations that have been carefully structured.

The unifying factor and vision of all of our projects is to achieve the personal development and growth of Ireland's next generation of performers. We continues to focus on our student-centered, musical skill-building programs which combine musical excellence with teaching in support of many areas including the support and development of careers that may combine musical excellence with teaching, advocacy, community outreach and leadership. All achievements to date have been fueled by a genuine passion to share and nurture our future performers – and that remains at the core of our ethos.

Christopher Nery

Trombone, Euphonium and Trumpet

Christopher Nery began the euphonium at the age of nine in his elementary school band in Pittsburgh, USA. Two years later, his family moved to Paris, where he studied trumpet and solfège. He eventually returned to the States, studying euphonium and trombone with Robert Hamrick from the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

He studied at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York as well as at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance and the Artist's Diploma. Christopher then travelled the US for two years with River City Brass, a brass and percussion ensemble based in Pittsburgh.

In 2001, he left the USA to pursue further study in the class of Mel Culbertson at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional Perpignan Méditerranée in France. He earned two gold medals in the class and became Mr. Culbertson's assistant in 2003. While teaching at the Conservatoire he also earned a Master of Music in euphonium performance in the class of Steven Mead at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. Christopher taught low brass until 2011 at the Conservatoire de Perpignan, where he created its first euphonium specific class. In 2009, the French government awarded him the "Certificat d'Aptitude", their highest teaching diploma.

As a trombonist, Christopher has worked with a variety of orchestras across the USA and Europe including Pittsburgh (PSO), Bordeaux (ONBA), Barcelona (OBC), Leeds (Opera North), and Dublin (NSOI). He is currently Principal Bass Trombone with the RTE Concert Orchestra. He has worked under the baton of maestros Sir Neville Mariner, Lalo Schiffrin, John Wilson, Daniel Tosi, Lorin Maazel, Michel Legrand, Brian Byrne, David Brophy, Oliver von Dohnanyi and with singers such as Jose Carreras, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and Lesley Garrett. He has also worked with pop acts such as Deep Purple, Pink Martini, and Duke Special.
